A drafting partner, not the artist.
We use AI illustration tools as part of how we design. We would rather tell you that plainly than let you find out sideways.
Where AI is used
In the drafting stage. A design begins as a written brief — what does this piece mean, who is it for, which tradition does it draw from. From that brief we may generate visual drafts using tools such as Midjourney, alongside hand-drawn work and, on some pieces, collaboration with an outside artist.
What comes out of a generator is never what goes on a garment. Every draft is rebuilt by hand in Photoshop and Illustrator: typography reset in the chosen typeface, palette snapped to exact brand values, composition rebalanced, symmetry corrected, line weight redrawn where the machine got it wrong. The compositional decisions, the palette, the type, and the final craft are human work.
Where AI is not used
- Not in customer service. If you write to us, a person answers.
- Not in our product photography of finished garments.
- Not on your data. We do not feed customer information into AI systems.
On originality
We design to avoid reproducing anyone else's work. Before release, a piece is reviewed against existing marks and known artwork, and anything that reads too close to an existing design is redrawn or dropped.
No review process is perfect. If you believe one of our designs infringes your work, write to sales@clavishouse.com with the details and we will look at it seriously and quickly. If we got it wrong, we will pull the piece.
Why we publish this
Because the honest answer to "was this made by a person?" is more interesting than the marketing one. AI moved a step of our process that used to take days into one that takes hours. It did not move the judgement, and judgement is the part that matters.
